Farley’s Finds: Film, Food & Favorites – January 12

Farley’s Finds: Film, Food and Favorites is a blog where I share with you what I love, what is deserving of a toast of whiskey, where I’ll be (events) and what I’m looking forward to this upcoming week. It’s sounds totally self-centered, but REALLY it’s because I stumble on some really amazing things other people are doing and I want to share them with you. So there!

Sharing the Love:

I kept seeing a girlfriend of mine posting about boxes of things that Influenster sent her to try and I was curious. I mean, who doesn’t like being sent free shit, am I right? While I found myself getting sucked into black hole of rating things and leaving feedback, I do think it’s a cool set up for people who have time to do it. Basically you give feedback on products you try, you earn badges, get a rating for social impact and obviously the more you do the more exclusive stuff you get. You have to create a profile and sync your social profiles for best impact. All you folks who love ranting or raving and sharing your public opinion like it’s sacred fact – this might be a fun place for you!

It still carries a bit of shame for me to admit this because I thought that you had to be in your eighties to experience this, but I get horrible migraines with changes in the barometric pressure. In other words, yes, my body aches when a storm rolls through. There’s not a whole lot you can do for weather-induced migraines unfortunately, but with this website or app you can check in to see how likely you are to be impacted by the weather and plan accordingly – don’t go outside, get extra hydrated, tell your family and loved ones that you love them but to please leave you alone for the next 12 hours, etc. It’s pretty freaking accurate too. You’re welcome.

Frances keeps getting highlighted as one of the best local shops in Arizona  in different publications and it’s pretty obvious why. It’s a funky, charming boutique, it’s connected to the community, it hosts engaging events and I always want to spend way too much money when I stop in for a visit. If you dig that crafty, homemade vibe and gifting experience then stop in and browse. You’ll definitely find something unique.

A toast to:

My homegirl Kamy Renee Johnson, who is one of the funniest, warmest actors in Arizona that I know is being featured in a blog by playwright Tara Meddaugh for winning best comedic performance at Filmstock Film Festival 2015. Keep an eye out for her on The Blog and Filmstock will also be sharing it when it’s live! Congrats Kamy, that is super cool!

Gita Farid is a remarkable woman who makes remarkable films. She is a visual and cinematic storyteller and her independent films are some of the most beautiful you will ever see because of her attention and devotion to history, detail and artistry. She has created some of the most incredible practical sets that I have ever seen in Arizona and works tirelessly to create a little bit of magic right here in our backyard. She’s working on a new film now ‘Corner Room’ and the images are stunning, the cast is stellar and once again, I cannot wait to see what this woman has come up with now.

My coworker Kellie Hwang got to write about the opening of Cobra Arcade Bar which I was totally envious of and I started to feel that I had met a kindred spirit when she said the guy had started collecting arcade games. I knew I had found one when I clicked on his Facebook and saw that his profile pic was of a lucha libre mask. Yes. So massive cheers to the man, the myth and the legend Ariel Bracamonte who opened Phoenix’s first Barcade and a second cheers because he’s only charging a measly quarter to play each game. Oh and they have Tron, that is all. Now I just have to meet the man.
